Nagaland University achieves milestone in quest for patents

DIMAPUR — Nagaland University (NU) achieved a significant milestone on account of acquisition of a patent for the first time in the institution’s journey towards innovation and research excellence.

The copy of the certificate of patent granted to Nagaland University was handed over by the inventor Prof. Ambrish Singh, Dept. of Chemistry, NU to the university’s Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jagadish K. Patnaik on May 22, in the office of the vice-chancellor, stated a press release issued by PRO, Nagaland University.

The university, under the leadership of Prof. Jagadish K Patnaik has made remarkable strides in the field of intellectual property, with an impressive total of around 45 patents already published and two patents granted for its faculty in the last year alone, it stated.

“The importance of securing patents for Nagaland University cannot be overstated. Patents not only recognise the originality and ingenuity of the university’s research endeavors but also serve as a testament to its commitment to contributing valuable insights to various fields of study,” the release stated.

It went on to mention that by obtaining patents, Nagaland University not only protects its intellectual property but also paves the way for potential commercialisation of its research findings, leading to societal impact and economic growth.

It further stated that Prof. Patnaik’s visionary leadership has played a pivotal role in fostering a culture of innovation and research at Nagaland University, thus laying the foundation for the significant increase in patent grants.

“Looking ahead, the continuous acquisition of patents will further solidify Nagaland University’s position as a hub for cutting-edge research and innovation. These patents not only enhance the university’s reputation but also attract funding opportunities, partnerships, and top talent, thereby fueling its growth and expanding its impact on society,” the release added.
