DIMAPUR — The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagaland state has decided to field candidates in all wards of municipal and town councils within the 12 Assembly constituencies where the party currently has sitting MLAs.

The president of BJP Nagaland, Benjamin Yepthomi, informed this to all the karyakartas in the state ahead of the elections to the urban local bodies (ULBs) 2024, scheduled to be held on June 26.

“The BJP will not field candidates in Municipal and Town Council wards that fall under the 25 Assembly Constituencies represented by the NDPP, and vice versa,” read the information.

The assembly constituencies that are currently represented by the BJP include: Dimapur I, Ghaspani I, Southern Angami II, Tuli, Koridang, Alongtaki, Akuluto, Tyüi, Tizit, Phomching, Longkhim–Chare and Tuensang Sadar I.

Meanwhile, the saffron party said that it will field candidates in the remaining 23 Municipal and Town Council wards that are not represented by either it or its People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) ally NDPP, “ensuring a friendly contest”.

“Wherever possible, the BJP and the NDPP through mutual understanding, will work to accommodate seats for each other taking winnability of the candidate into account,” it added.

The BJP went on to state that the decision was taken after a wide consultation with its alliance partner (NDPP) in the greater and common interest of the PDA.
