Nagaland Tribes Council urges Modi to expedite Naga peace process, ink agreement without delay
Dimapur, April 30 (EMN): The Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to expedite the Naga peace process and take a call on inking an agreement to resolve the protracted political issue within the parameters of the dialogue that was officially concluded on October 31, 2019 based on the Framework Agreement and the Agreed Position.
In a representation to the prime minister, the NTC stated that a solution that is “inclusive, honourable, and acceptable” is yet to see the light of the day despite the dialogue between the government of India and the Naga political groups having concluded two-and-a-half years ago.
While terming the assurance to resolve the vexed Naga political issue without setting any timeframe as a “ploy”, it said Nagas have lost patience due to the delay caused by extensive negotiations.
“Several representations have been submitted to your benign authority earlier with unceasing hopes of bestowing peace in the land of the Nagas at the earliest but to no avail till date,” read the representation.
Recalling the Naga people of Nagaland in particular and Nagas in general wanting ‘solution’ and not ‘election’ during the 2018 state assembly polls, the NTC said the Centre’s “Election for Solution” assurance is gradually vanishing.
It reminded that the political parties in Nagaland had come together and formed an all-party government under the banner of United Democratic Alliance in order to facilitate peaceful political settlement in the region.
It also stated that the Parliamentary Committee on Naga Political Issue, which consists of all the 60 MLAs and two MPs from Nagaland had declared its commitment to ‘pave the way as and when an inclusive, honourable and acceptable solution is arrived at’.
Terming these developments as “fortunes” towards arriving at a solution, the NTC urged the prime minister to ink the final settlement to the Naga issue without any further delay.
