Nagaland to lift 100% food grains under PMGKAY

Dimapur, May 18 (EMN): Nagaland has been placed among 15 other states and union territories (UTs) to lift 100 percent food grains under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) for May 2021.
A PIB report stated that until May 17, all 36 states/ UTs have lifted 31.80 LMT of food grains from FCI depots while Lakshadweep has lifted full allocation for May and June.
Report stated that 15 states/ UTs namely Andhra Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Ladakh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Tripura have lifted 100 percent May 2021 allocation.
The ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution through a PIB report stated that “In view of pro-poor initiative announced by the government of India to ameliorate the hardship faced by the poor due to economic disruption caused by Corona virus, PMGKAY has been announced by the government of India.” The ministry also sensitised all the states and UTs to lift and distribute free food grains under PMGKAY in a time bound manner.
Under this scheme, additional food grains, free of cost at five kilogram per person, per month for approximately 79.39 crore beneficiaries has been covered under NFSA, which is being provided for a period of two months–May to June. The allocation is an addition to regular NFSA allocation and 79.39 LMT food grains are expected to be issued under the said scheme, the report stated.
Government of India will bear full expenditure of over INR 26,000 crore for cost of food grains, intrastate transportation etc., as part of central assistance to states/UTs, the report added.
