Nagaland to experience more rain; Dimapur records highest temperature in July

DIMAPUR— Nagaland is likely to experience very heavy rainfall over the next few days, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

Moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over the northeastern region from August 1 to the 5th, with isolated very heavy rainfall likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura started between August 1 and 3, while Arunachal Pradesh is expected to experience on August 2-3, updated IMD.

In view of this, people in the region have been asked to avoid going to areas that often face water logging problems, stay away from vulnerable structure and follow traffic advisories.

District-wise weather update showed that Mon, Mokokchung and Kohima districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall on August 1; and very heavy rainfall in Mokokchung, Wokha, Zunheboto, Kohima districts and heavy rainfall in Peren on August 2.

On August 3, very heavy rainfall is likely over Mokokchung, Longleng and Zunheboto districts, while Mon and Wokha districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall, said the update. It added that very heavy rainfall is likely over Longleng, Mokokchung and Zunheboto districts on August 4, and heavy rainfall over Mon and Wokha districts.

The IMD stated that Dimapur and Zunheboto recorded highest (maximum) and lowest (minimum) temperature respectively during July.

Meanwhile, the directorate of Soil and Water Conservation, Nagaland, has issued a press release stating that the temperature in the state is gradually rising while experiencing medium to heavy showers with more than 17 rainy days with thunderstorm and lightning.

It stated that in the month of July, as documented by the department from Meteorological stations, the state recorded an average maximum temperature of 27.5 degree Celsius, minimum temperature hovered at 20.6 degree Celsius and relative humidity at 85.3%.

The meteorological observatory at Dimapur recorded the highest maximum temperature with 36.2 degree Celsius on July 22 and Zunheboto recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 14.2 degree Celsius on July 3.

The state received an average rainfall of 348.6 mm in the month of July over different stations, it stated, adding that the Jalukie observatory recorded the highest rainfall at 135.2mm on July 23.
