Nagaland team attends G20 meeting in Pune

KOHIMA — A team from Nagaland led by the commissioner and secretary of School Education and SCERT, Kevileno Angami, and the director of state mission director of Samagra Shiksha Nagaland, Temsunaro Aier, attended the national conference on foundational literacy and numeracy held at Savitribai Phule, in Pune on June 17 and 18.

The national conference was held as part of 4th G20 education working group (EdWG) meeting on the theme ‘Creating the base for lifelong learning’. The meeting would continue till June 22, stated an update from the Education department. 

It informed that a one-day seminar on foundational literacy and numeracy, especially in the context of blended mode of learning is scheduled on June 19 to be attended by members of G20 countries.

Annpurna Devi, minister of state for Education, attended the inaugural function as the chief guest on June 17.

The sub theme of the conference included “Teaching learning approaches and pedagogy for FLN in the context of multilingualism” and “Capacity building and training of teachers in blended mode.”

It stated that experts from IIM, NIAS, CSTT, MOE, NIEPA, CBSE and CBC spoke during the panel discussion. It added that presentations were also made by states on best practices in foundational literacy and numeracy.

Deepak Kesarkar, minister of School Education from Maharashtra; Chandra Patil, minister of Higher and Technical Education from Maharashtra; Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi, educationist, actor and film maker, and Prof. Suresh Gosavi , vice chancellor of SPPU also spoke in the conference.

The focus of the conference was to strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy in the country by improving the overall ecosystem of school education.

Report stated that many states and union territories are exhibiting various initiatives in foundational literacy and numeracy, blended learning and toy-based pedagogy in which Nagaland is also participating in the G20 exhibition.

The exhibition would continue till June 22, it informed.
