Wokha, Jan. 14 (EMN): The deputy commissioner of Wokha, Orenthung Lotha, on Friday, urged the younger generation to value the ancestral virtues such as hospitality, sincerity, honesty, hard working etc., and also preserve the traditional attires.

Speaking at the cultural session of the 14th general conference of Lotha Middle Range Students Union (LMRSU), he pointed out that the student community has a major role to play in bringing changes for nation-building. Terming climate change at present as a bigger threat, he called upon the students for environmental protection and advised them to take up activities to preserve and protect flora and fauna and also use the resources sensibly in order to reduce pollution.

Stating that education is to empower the mind of the people, he encouraged the educated youth and students to be professional, dedicated and acquired wide range of knowledge to be employable. He also spoke on the importance and effectiveness of taking the Covid-19 vaccine to avoid casualties.

The programme witnessed folk songs presented by Akuk Students’ Union (ASU), yodelling, traditional fire making, greased pole climbing and tug of war competitions.

Greeting was also delivered by Chumchanthung Ezung, president of Nyiro Range Students’ Union (NRSU). Meanwhile, a new team of LMRSU for the year 2022-2025 was also elected led by Wonchibemo Ovung as president.
