Nagaland: SASRD conducts training on linseed cultivation
Dimapur, Oct. 18 (EMN): ICAR-AICRP on Linseed under SASRD: NU Medziphema campus conducted a one-day farmers training in Waromung village under Mokokchung district on October 14.
An update from SARD stated that the project in-charge, Prof. L Tongpang Longkumer, briefed the trainees on the importance and scope of adopting linseed cultivation and popularisation of oilseed cultivation in rice fallows during rabi season to increase the productivity.
During technical session on importance and uses of linseed, Prof. L Tongpang Longkumer informed on the diversified uses of linseed as well as the numerous health benefits of linseed.
During the technical session on cultivation aspects of linseed, Dr. Noyingthung Kikon, junior agronomist, ICAR-AICRP Linseed, stressed on the importance of nutrient management and scope of adopting utera linseed in rice based cropping systems. It added that hands-on training on value addition in linseed was conducted by Dr. Anil Kumar Singh, junior breeder, ICAR-AICRP on Linseed, where procedure on preparation of roasted linseed, linseed laddu and chutney were demonstrated to the trainees.
Altogether, 39 trainees from Waromung village attended the training programme. Report stated that seeds of improved linseed variety Shekhar, water pumps, knapsack sprayers, neem oil, mixture grinders, weighing balance, kadhai were distributed to the trainees after the programme.
Besides, monetary assistance was provided to FLD farmers as well as two SHG groups for procurement of locally available inputs as well as assistance towards promotion of value addition in linseed.
