Nagaland: SASRD activities affected by frequent fire incidents
Dimapur, March 25 (EMN): Frequent incidents of fire at the School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development (SASRD), Nagaland University, Medziphema Campus, has severely affected the research activities of the school causing huge losses in terms of research work and trauma to the students and staff staying in the campus.
With the occurrence of fire incidents on a regular basis, SASRD authorities have appealed to the public and neighbouring villages to refrain from setting fire in the surrounding area of the campus.
An update from the school stated that the fires set in the nearby area became uncontrollable and it fanned up towards the boys hostel on March 20, while on March 21 and 24 the raging fire almost set the girls hostel on fire, which was spared by rain water.
It also stated that the ongoing examination due on March 25 was also postponed because of the situation caused by the fire.
Meanwhile, SASRD, Medziphema Campus, has placed on record the invaluable effort and contribution made by the Medziphema civil administration, Police department and Fire Service at Chumoukedima, youth of Medziphema village, staff and students of SASRD, for their prompt actions during the ordeals. It has acknowledged their concerted and heroic efforts for saving the school from being engulfed in fire. It has conveyed gratitude to all the concerned government departments and civil bodies for their timely assistance.
It further appealed to the public and neighbouring villages to take heed of the dangers posed by such fires and to take into consideration the adverse effects of such acts on human lives and the environment.
