DIMAPUR — In 2023, Nagaland reported a total of 224 financial cyber fraud complaints, amounting to INR 148.94 lakh, according to the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting Management System — the lowest in the region.

In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Ajay Kumar Mishra, informed that more than INR 1,200 crore has been saved in over 4.7 lakh complaints since the inception of the system.

He also informed that more than 3,20,000 SIMs and 49,000 IMEIs, as reported by police from different states, have been blocked by the central government to date and that out of the 224 financial cyber fraud complaints reported in Nagaland, 73 complaints have been put on hold, with a total lien amount of INR 18.09 lakh.

According to the reported Northeast state-wise financial cyber fraud complaints, Assam had the highest number of complaints with 7,621, followed by Tripura with 1,913 complaints, Meghalaya with 654 complaints, Arunachal Pradesh with 470 complaints, Manipur with 339 complaints, Sikkim with 292 complaints, and Mizoram with 239 complaints.

The ‘Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System‘, operated by I4C, was launched for immediate reporting of financial frauds and to prevent fraudsters from syphoning off funds, and a toll-free helpline number ‘1930’ is in operation to assist in lodging online cyber complaints.
