Nagaland registered 8 cyber crime cases in 2021; Assam tops in Northeast India

Dimapur, Sep. 2 (EMN): Nagaland registered a total of eight cyber crime cases in 2021, out of which five were related to fraud, two related motive to sexual exploitation, one to extortion.
With 10 such cases from the previous year pending investigation, the total number of cases related to cyber crimes in the state is 18, according to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report.
Only one case was disposed of by the police while 17 cases were still pending investigation at end of 2021 with 94.4 pendency percentages, it added.
Among the north-eastern states, Assam registered the highest number of cases under cyber crimes with 4846 cases, followed by Meghalaya with 107 cases, Manipur- 67, Arunachal Pradesh- 47, Mizoram- 30, Tripura- 24, while Sikkim reported zero such cases in 2021.
In the country, a total of 52974 cases were registered under cyber crimes during the year, an increase of nearly six percent from the previous year (50035 cases).
Telangana registered the highest number of cases under cyber crimes among the states at 10,303, followed by Uttar Pradesh- 8829, Karnataka- 8136, and Maharashtra- 5562.
However, in the 19 metropolitan cities, a total of 17,115 cases were registered under Cyber Crimes in 2021, showing a decline of 8.3% over 2020 (18,657 cases).
The crime head-wise cases also revealed that Computer Related Offences (section 66 of IT Act) with 8,513 cases constituted the highest number of Cyber Crimes, accounting for 49.7% during 2021 in terms of metropolitan cities.
