Nagaland records highest Covid-19 cases, deaths in single week

Dimapur, May 15 (EMN): Nagaland continues to witness surge in Covid-19 cases, reporting 1,951 new infections and 67 deaths (excluding cases reported on Saturday) in the past week ending May 14, which is highest new cases and casualties reported in a single week since the pandemic began last year.
The date reveals that there is a weekly 22% increase in new cases and 272% increase in deaths, informed the weekly bulletin issued by the state’s Health and Family Welfare department.
It informed that the latest trend shows an increase in cases and deaths in north-eastern states, West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, while a declining trend is seen in Major affected states like Maharashtra, Delhi, UP, Gujarat, MP, Chhattisgarh and Bihar.
Test results of 8,385 samples in the past week revealed positivity rate of 23% and random sampling results from across the state, except Dimapur, showed 17% positivity rate, which is alarming.
Dimapur is the Covid epicentre of the state, as data revealed that Dimapur accounts for 63% of active cases and 82% of death (55) reported in the state last week. Also, out of the 252 weekly Covid-19 hospital admissions, 79% was from Dimapur, while 19% was from Kohima, 4% each from Mokokchung, Zunheboto, and 5% from the rest of the districts.
