Principal Secretary of Health and Family Welfare, Amardeep Singh Bhatia on Monday said the Covid-19 vaccination drive in the state received positive response from healthcare workers, registering 62% turnout on the first day.

Bhatia maintained that no cases of adverse effects post-vaccination were reported in the state except a healthcare worker reporting a minor pain during administration of the jab, which was taken care of. He said that no complaint has been received one day after the vaccinations were carried out.

The official said that vaccination was conducted at 22 sites for 1300 beneficiaries on the second day. He added that out of 26,500 doses the state has received, ‘10% will be for wastage’ and around 11,000-12,000 persons will get the vaccine in the first phase.

‘Since it’s a continuous process, we will not set target,’ he said, adding that inoculation will continue till the targeted beneficiaries are vaccinated.

He informed that the government had planned to continue vaccination every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in order to hamper health services. He went on to say that vaccination drive in Noklak district will start on January 20, while it has started in Kiphire and Longleng.

Meanwhile, the official has urged the people not to be misled by rumours but go by what experts had said- ‘Covid accine is safe’. He further said that the state is well-prepared for vaccination with cold chains in place and administration sites being planned and verified by district teams manned by healthcare workers and headed by a vaccinator along with other support staff.

Bhatia informed that more that 40,000 beneficiaries have been identified for vaccination in the state.
