Nagaland produced 1,18,500 MT of cabbages during  2020-21

DIMAPUR— Nagaland produced 1,18,500 MT of cabbages, the highest cultivated and produced vegetable in the state, covering an of 6,959 hectare during 2020-21, as per the horticulture data in ‘Nagaland Statistical Handbook 2022’ issued by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics.

Among the districts, Phek recorded the highest cabbage production (28,800 MT in 1,310 hectare), followed by Kohima (14596 MT in 770 hectare) and Dimapur (12800 MT in 400 hectare).

The second highest produced vegetable in the state during 2020-21 was tapioca with 73,359 MT produced in an area of 4,701 hectare, followed by potato with 55,588 MT in an area of 4,344 hectare.

According to the handbook, Mokokchung, Kohima and Zunheboto districts topped tapioca production with 11,250 MT, 9,426 MT and 9,246 MT, respectively. Phek, Dimapur and Kohima led in potato production with 7,910 MT, 6,850 MT and 6,605 MT, respectively.

The least produced vegetables in the state are turnip (20 MT in an area of 3 hectare from Dimapur district), capsicum (41.75 MT in an area of 7 hectare from Kohima and Kiphire districts) and broccoli (68.81 MT in an area of 29.50 hectare cultivated in Kohima, Kiphire, Mokokchung, Mon, Peren, Wokha and Zunheboto districts).

The other horticulture crops produced in the state are ash gourd (1491 MT), beans (17,596 MT), bitter gourd (575 MT), bottle gourd (831 MT), brinjal (3 450 MT), beetroot (70 MT), carrot (5 028 MT), cauliflower (3 631 MT), green chilly (34,128 MT), cucumber (9,470 MT), pumpkin (7,099 MT), ladies finger (1,518 MT), onion (5,612 MT), peas (8,978 MT), radish (4,540 MT), sponge gourd (144 MT), sweet potato (10,373 MT), tomato (19,699 MT), mushroom (1,638 MT), tree tomato (182 MT), chow-chow (9,005 MT), colacasia (29,814 MT) and other vegetables (35457 MT).

Meanwhile, there is no record of pointed gourd and elephant foot yam production in the state.
