DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Police has clarified on a video circulating on social media that has sparked concern after it showed NAP (IR) Bn. personnel in Odisha walking back to their camp on foot in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The personnel, reportedly deployed for election duty in Jajpur, were visibly upset about not being provided transportation back to their camp after completing their duties.

In a press release issued by Nagaland Police, it was stated that the Nagaland IR Coy was deployed for the counting centre and other law and order duties on June 4.

The entire episode, as circulated in the video, transpired after the due performance of duty at the counting centre in Jajpur, which was reportedly over by 11:30 pm on the counting day. The personnel were apparently agitated since the vehicles that were to transport them back to their camp did not report on time.

Subsequently, on the direction of PHQ Kohima, the commandant of the 14th NAP (IR) Bn. conducted an inquiry, and it was ascertained that due to the overwhelming load of work, the district police admitted to a delay in providing the vehicles on time.

The release mentioned that SP Jajpur, Odisha, regretted the lapses and oversight and assured that all logistical support, including sufficient transportation, was provided. Corrective measures were taken to ensure that such lapses do not take place in the future.

“The scale of vehicle as mandated by Election Commission of India have been provided to the ‘F’ Coy of 14th NAP (IR) Bn.,” it said, adding that the PHQ was informed that all duty personnel deployed in Bhubaneswar and Jajpur are diligently performing their duty.

The Nagaland Police further informed all concerned that the Police department is sensitive to the needs and requirements of officers, men, and women at all times.

It added that expedient steps are always taken to ensure that basic minimum facilities are provided to its personnel in the discharge of bona fide duties at all places, both within and outside the state.
