DIMAPUR —The Yimkhiung Liberü Ariahako Kohima (YLAK) has expressed appreciation to those who were involved in arresting Vilie Mere, the accused who was arrested on July 29 in connection with the rape of a 5-year-old in Kohima.

In a press statement, the YLAK lauded the police, DC Kohima, Northern Angami Public Organisation (NAPO), Northern Angami Women Organisation (NAWO), Northern Angami Women Organisation Group C, the village councils of Tsiesema and Tsiesema Basa, Tsiesema Village Students’ Union, Tsiesemiapfü Mechü Krotho, and all the organisations and individuals of Tseisema Village and surrounding areas, YUK, YSUK, ENWO, ENPUK, and various organisations under ENPUK for their efforts in arresting the accused.

It further appealed to the concerned law enforcement agencies to punish the accused under the relevant sections of the law and not entertain any bail applications whatsoever. Also, YLAK appreciated the police for extending protection to the victim and her family.

YUK: The Yimkhiung Union Kohima (YUK) has expressed its appreciation and congratulated the law enforcing agency and investigating agency for ‘cracking the case with unflinching ethos’.

In a press release, the union said that the crime committed is beyond human comprehension and that such a gruesome felony can be committed only by a monster at the peak of his insanity. It said that the crime is well covered under the POCSO Act and appealed to the judiciary to try the accused with a non-bailable offence without any prejudice and ensure that justice is delivered ‘at once’.

Further, the YUK conveyed its appreciation to DC Kohima, SP Kohima, NAPO, NAWO, NAYO, councils of Tseisema Basa and Tseisema, ENPUK, ENWO, YLAK, and YSUK, for their ‘unwavering support and selfless service during trials and tribulations’.

YSU: The Yimkhiung Students’ Union (YSU) Kohima has commended the investigating authorities for their ‘thorough and tireless’ investigation leading to the arrest of the accused, Mere. The union urged the responsible authorities to administer justice as soon as possible by imposing sufficient, non-bailable punishment on the accused as per the applicable law.

The Union expressed gratitude to the Tsiesema villagers for their cooperation throughout the investigation, as well as the various unions affiliated with ENPUK, ENWO, NAPO, NAWO, YUK, YLAK, and others, for their efforts in aiding the investigating officials, which helped in nabbing the accused.

The Union further appreciated the protection and security from the police that the victim’s family received.
