DIMAPUR A 46-year-old man was found dead on Saturday in a suspected hit-and-run case, near the under-construction toll booth plaza in Kukidilong area, Chümoukedima district.

A police officer informed Eastern Mirror that the body was found on the right side of the road (kutcha road) towards Kohima from Dimapur. He said they could not ascertain the time of the incident as there were no witnesses but it was suspected to be a hit-and-run case.

The officer informed that they received information about the tragedy around 6:30 am on Saturday, after which the traffic personnel led by duty officers rushed to the spot and located the body.

After meeting the public from the colony, village chairman and council members, they were able to trace the relatives of the victim, he informed.

The kin of the victim did not want to conduct a post mortem or register a case, the body was handed over to them after observing necessary procedures, said the police officer.

However, he updated that a suo moto case has been registered under Ghaspani police station and they are investigating the case.

The officer further informed that police stations and check gates have been alerted to look out for suspected vehicles, be it light or heavy.

‘We have registered a case and an investigation is going on, also we have informed all the gates to provide information if they found any,’ he added.
