DIMAPUR — Special Judge, POCSO, Inalo Zhimomi, in a judgment pronounced in an open court on July 21, sentenced one Kangzangyi (39 years), a resident of Nkozai colony, Peren town, to life imprisonment for raping his step daughter, a minor girl of 13 years at the time of incident.
Public Prosecutor, Peren, K Heroto Chishi, in an update, informed that the case was based on an FIR lodged by the complainant who is the uncle of the minor girl, alleging that his niece was forcibly raped by the accused on several occasions, resulting in the minor getting pregnant.
Accordingly, a case was registered at Peren Police Station under POCSO Act and probe was initiated by investigation officer UBI Neiketouko.
Upon completion of investigation, a charge sheet was filed against the accused person for an offence punishable under section 376/506 IPC R/w 4 POCSO, along with the list of prosecution witnesses.
During the course of trail, the prosecution led the evidence and all together six prosecution witnesses were examined and after hearing the arguments of the defense and prosecution, the court passed its verdict on July 21.
The accused was found guilty for an offence under 376 (2) IPC r/w 4 POCSO Act and sentenced to life imprisonment. The court also ordered the accused to pay a fine of INR 2500 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo rigorous imprisonment for six months.
