Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura expected to receive extremely heavy rainfall next few days
DIMAPUR — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alert for extremely heavy rainfall over the north-eastern states of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura in its weekly weather forecast.
According to the IMD, isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura over the next seven days (ending August 28), while Arunachal Pradesh is also very likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall on August 23 and 28.
Isolated very heavy rainfall also very likely over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on August 23 and 24; Meghalaya on August 22, 24 and 25, said the update.
The IMD also forecast isolated extremely heavy rainfall over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on August 25.
It went on to warn of thunderstorm and lightning at isolated places in Nagaland from August 23 to 26, and heavy rain at isolated places on August 23 and 24, while moderate rain is expected in most part of the state over the next few days.
The monsoon trough at mean sea level now passes through Sri Ganganagar, Rohtak, Orai, Siddhi, Gaya, the centre of the low-pressure area over northern Bangladesh and its surroundings, continuing to southeastward to the northeast Bay of Bengal, stated IMD on the cause of the rainfall.
The cyclonic circulation over Jharkhand and its neighbouring areas at 0.9 km above mean sea level has now merged with the monsoon trough and due to this effect, fairly widespread to widespread light and moderate rainfall very likely over East and Northeast India, during this week, it added.
