Dimapur, Nov. 18 (EMN): Penalty shootout tournament organised by Lirmen Students’ Union was inaugurated on Saturday with Temjen Imna Along, Minister of Higher Education and Tribal Affairs, Nagaland as chief patron at Dimapur Government College ground.

Speaking during the inaugural programme, Along encouraged the youngsters to be daring, and work towards a common goal for the people.

“If we are consistent in our efforts then we will have a vibrant and strong Nagaland that will be inclusive to our states,” he said.

He maintained that Nagaland can survive only when the 17 tribes of Nagaland are united.

‘We should not stand together with others tribes to break Nagaland, but we should stand with our people as one, fighting together to bridge the gap,’ he asserted.

Further, he opined that without politics, ‘there is no plan and agenda’; an agenda should be there not to break or destroy each other but to bring development, empower people and to bring good governance and build its citizens. He said that aspirations can only be achieved by unity and strength.

‘It is high time that we inculcate in our hearts and minds to live together and work hard,’ he added.

The organisers informed that the tournament is a fundraising campaign for the upcoming Lirmen Students’ Conference, which will be held next month. A total of 20 teams are participating in the tournament and the prize money for the champion is INR 40,000, INR 25,000 for runner-up and INR 5000 each for the semi finalists and INR 3000 for the golden glove title winner.
