Nagaland Law Students’ Federation deplores wrong depiction of Naga identity
Dimapur, Nov. 25 (EMN): Nagaland Law Students’ Federation(NLSF) has expressed anguish over false representation of Naga identity by one Bengali author namely Debarati Mukhopadhyay in her Bengali book “Debaratir Sera Thriller” published by Deep Prakashan Publisher and Ananda Publisher in 2022.
In a press release, the federation accused the author of blatant racism, cultural appropriation, harmful and or offensive tropes or stereotypes by all possible language to libel different tribes and the Naga identity.
The federation has condemned the malice act of the author Debarati Mukhopadhyay for fallaciously documenting the Naga culture in all hasty without proper exploration or fact-findings. It stated that Nagas are deeply disheartened with the phrase used by the author wherein she wrote: “They cut up and eat their mothers when they are old. Someone’s mother is cut off when she gets old, then the children eat it,” on P-14,15,19 and 22 respectively.
The federation was of firm standpoint that, no human race in this modernity would have still practice such tradition and custom as part of culture. It stated that quoting with such phrase to the Naga identify was a diabolical belief of the author.
It further cautioned that failure to rectify on the documentation of Naga identity in the book “Debaratir Sera Thriller” written by Debarati Mukhopadhyay on P- 14,15,19 and 22, the federation would take its own course of legal prosecution upon Debarati Mukhopadhyay.
