DIMAPUR — As a prelude to Swachh Bharat Diwas, a two-week Swachhata League 2.0 was launched in Kohima and Dimapur on Saturday.

The annual Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) fortnight is being jointly organised by Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban and Grameen between September 15 and October 2. The fortnight aims to mobilise the participation of crores of citizens across the country via various activities such as Indian Swachhata League 2.0, Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir and mass cleanliness drives.

The launch of Indian Swachhta League 2.0 in Kohima was organised by Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) in collaboration with the Jakhama Baptist Fellowship, Kohima, on Saturday.

The launch programme was attended by the MLA of 9th Kohima Town AC, Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso, as special guest.

Speaking at the programme, Dr. Rhutso stated that the Indian Swachhata League 2.0 was a movement to make Swachh Bharat a reality in India under the branch of Swachh Bharat Mission. He encouraged the students to take the opportunity to promote cleanliness.

Various activities including presentation of songs, dances, violin recital and Swachh pledge by the participants were the highlights of the programme.

In Dimapur, advisor to the Government of Nagaland, H Tovihoto Ayemi, launched the Indian Swachhata League 2.0 and Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir at Clock Tower, Dimapur, on Saturday morning.

Speaking at the launch programme, Tovihoto has sought collective effort to maintain cleanliness in Dimapur. In this regard, he called upon the public to desist rampant dumping of waste in their respective areas.

“We cannot solely depend on the sweepers or the Dimapur Municipal Council alone but it should be the collective responsibility of all the citizens to keep the city garbage free,” Ayemi said.

In his concluding remarks, the advisor expressed hope that every citizen would rededicate themselves to the cause of Swachhata to ensure ‘ourselves a healthy mindset and healthy living in a healthy environment.’

The deputy commissioner of Dimapur, Sachin Jaiswal, delivered the keynote address and administered the pledge, while the DMC administrator, W Manpai Phom, delivered the welcome address.

Mhonjan, president of Team Better Dimapur, delivered a message on the importance of cleanliness.
