MOKOKCHUNG — Portfolio Judge of Mokokchung, Justice Kakheto Sema on Friday said that judicial infrastructure symbolises more than just physical structure; it represents collective aspiration for a fair, accessible and efficient legal system. “It stands as a testament to our commitment to upholding justice, protecting rights and fostering social harmony in Nagaland,” the Judge said.

Kakheto was addressing the second session after the virtual inauguration of the District Court Complex in Mokokchung by Justice Sandeep Mehta, Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, on Friday.

He stated that the District Courts act as the first point of contact for individuals seeking legal remedies and so it is essential that they are adequately equipped to handle the diverse caseload effectively.

The judge expressed optimism that the provision of well-stocked library and state-of-the-art facilities and administrative office will enhance the overall efficiency of the judicial process, ensuring that justice is delivered promptly and fairly, besides bridging the gap between the rural and urban areas and ensuring that every citizen, regardless of their geographic location, has equal access to justice.

‘Investing in modern courtroom embracing technology, and providing supportive facilities, we ensure that justice reaches every citizen in Nagaland,’ the Justice said.

He also asserted that the importance of judicial infrastructure for justice delivery at the district level in a small state like Nagaland cannot be understated because it forms the bedrock upon which a fair and accessible legal system is built.

“Let us celebrate this momentous occasion and renew our commitment to upholding justice for the betterment of our beloved state,” he challenged the gathering.

The executive engineer of CAWD Nagaland, Sungtiba Amer, in his technical report, informed that the construction of the building commenced in December 2016 and was completed in June 2023 with a total project cost of INR 869.34 lakh, including additional works.

The deputy commissioner of Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Phoji, and R Ramakrishnan also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, the principal district and session judge, Mokokchung, Somet C Chang delivered the welcome.
