Nagaland: Hope Academy closes 2023 with musical play
DIMAPUR — Hope Academy closed the curtain for the year 2023 with a musical play ‘Matilda’ on Dec. 16 at Hope Academy Campus in Seitheke Basa.
An update issued on Saturday informed that the annual drama was first enacted in the year 2013, staging ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ and the school continues to make it annually. This year marked the 7th edition.
This year’s play ‘Matilda’ was adopted from a novel by Roald Dahl, showcasing touch of a modern family background.
The cast for the play had 25 characters, 44 choirs and 26 dancers from grade 4 to grade 12 students.
Dr. Atoho Jakhalu, Director, Climate Studies and Knowledge Solution Centre, Government of Nagaland was present as a special guest and pastor Wapang, Light House Church graced the event with a prayer. The students along with the parents congregated the campus to witness the play and render support to inculcate confidence, communication skills and leadership qualities among the children through Drama.
Jakhalu advocated the impact of drama as part of school curriculum, bringing about profound cognitive development, memory focus, team building skills, confidence and memory resilience in the students that helps them in the academic performance consequently.
Sashila Ozukum, Principal, Hope Academy said that the event was a celebration of students’ consistent hardwork throughout the past three months. She added that the process of the play evolved the students from shy individuals to confident personality.
The event was held in collaboration with Shui Lights and Sound Partner – Audio Garage.
