KOHIMA— Governor of Nagaland La. Ganesan on Wednesday felicitated the toppers, rank holders and achievers of various categories in the recently declared High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) results.

Awards and certificates were given away to 62 achievers of HSLC and HSSLC exams at a felicitation programme held in Raj Bhavan, Kohima.

Addressing the gathering, the governor congratulated the young achievers and acknowledged the big role played by the parents, families, teachers and school authorities in nurturing the students.

He told the students to always remember that they are the future of society and their passing out with flying colours has not only affirmed their talent and potential but it should also re-affirm their responsibility towards their families, society, state and the country.

He said that they would be confronted with different challenges as they proceed higher in studies but their sense of responsibility and obligations should be the cornerstone of their life. Always remember that you carry the hopes and wishes of not only your families but of the society and the state as well, he added.

The governor advised the students to imbibe good ethical values of honesty, integrity, patriotism, empathy and love towards their fellow human beings, especially towards the weaker sections of the society as they pursue higher studies, saying that it will hold them in good stead as they go on to hold important positions in society and the government one day.

‘More than talented individuals, there is a need for more good human beings to make the state and country a better place to live in,’ he added.

The trend of female students outperforming their male counterparts indicates that equal importance is being given to girls and reflects gender equality, which is vital for the society to develop.

Speaking on the New Education Policy (NEP) 2023, the governor said that it intends to make the Indian education system more inclusive, flexible and learner-centric.

“Our problem right now is that we are producing a good number of graduates each year but who are not adequately equipped to be employable in the job market. The NEP is expected to address this pressing issue,” he said.

DC Chumoukedima, Abhinav Shivam urged the students to have a dream that is bigger than their ‘current state’ and to work towards achieving that goal. Lamenting that the present generation is going backward because of reading less, he advised the gathering to develop the habit of reading.

Also speaking at the event, Superintendent of Police, Kohima, Imnalensa said that life is what one makes of it. ‘One may face challenges and fail but life of great personalities has taught a lesson that they have been ready to overcome the challenges and learn from their mistakes,’ he said while advising them not to associate their failure with defeat.

The governor gave away awards and certificates to students who stood out in various categories, including Governor’s awards to HSLC and HSSCL toppers, achievers in MILs and skill education subjects, toppers of government school, toppers among students from eastern Nagaland, Governor’s Excellence award for Science study (HSSLC), and NBSE awards to HSLC and HSSLC toppers.
