Dimapur, July 1 (EMN): Nagaland Governor RN Ravi and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio have mourned the demise of Toshi Wungtung, Advisor for Information and Public Relations, SCERT, Village Guards, who passed away while undergoing treatment for post-Covid complications at BLK Hospital in New Delhi on Thursday.

Ravi stated that Wungtung tirelessly and selflessly worked for the better future of the youth and dedicated his life to building a peaceful and prosperous Nagaland.

‘He was a visionary leader whose contributions towards uplift of the relatively less developed people of eastern Nagaland will be remembered for years to come. In his demise, the country and the state has lost a promising and dynamic young leader,’ read the condolence message.

The governor conveyed condolence on behalf of the people of Nagaland and prayed that God bestow fortitude to the family members to bear this tragic loss.

Rio also expressed pain over the demise of Wungtung, whose father was also an elected member and served in various capacities in state government.

“He was actively involved with various social organisations from an early age serving as the President of the Naga Students’ Union Delhi, Member Consultative/Advisory Committee Naga Students’ Federation, spokesperson and advisor, Yimchunger Tribal Council and as General Secretary Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation,” read the condolence message.

“He was known to be an upright man and a righteous leader. He was a fine gentleman and a man of conviction who always worked tirelessly for the welfare of the people. He had a keen interest in various areas impacting the Nagas, especially in developing border areas, promotion of Naga arts and culture, and environment conservation,” it added.

Rio said that he had known Wungtung when he was a scholar at Jawaharlal Nehru University. “He was also closely associated to the Naga people and organisations in Myanmar and always made efforts on promoting humanitarian causes,” he said.

“He was a leader who stood for the masses and reflected the aspirations of the people. Naga society as a whole has lost a dynamic leader and a true son of the soil. It is also a personal loss for me. The vacuum created due to his demise will be difficult to fill. However, his legacy will continue to live on through the many lives he touched.

“My wife joins me in conveying our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members. It is our humble prayer that Almighty God will give them strength and courage to bear the irreparable loss. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace,” read the condolence message.
