Dimapur, Aug. 18 (EMN): Nagaland Governor, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio have extended greetings to the Sangtam community on the occasion of Hunapongpi festival and Janmashtami greetings to those celebrating it.

“The celebrations of Hunapongpi express affection and care for one another. Children are the prominent participants in this festival whereby they learn to preserve the beautiful culture displayed in the form of folk songs, dances and traditional sports. It provides an opportunity to understand and appreciate the beauty of the underlying ancient philosophies of the community,” the governor said.

“Let us celebrate this beautiful festival following Covid appropriate behaviors,” he added.

In a separate message, he conveyed Janmashtami greetings to the people celebrating the occasion.

“Janmashtami is the celebration of the birth, life and teachings of Lord Krishna and is celebrated across the country with traditional fervor and enthusiasm,” he wrote.

“May his noble message of righteous conduct and action inspire each and every one of us to strengthen the moral foundations of our society. Let us imbibe the festival’s message of love, compassion and selfless service and work together to take our great nation forward,” he added.

Rio, who had extended Hunapongpi greetings to the Sangtam community on Wednesday, also tweeted: “On the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami, I extend my warm greetings and good wishes. May the festivities strengthen bonds and bring joy and peace in our lives.”
