Kohima, May 25 (EMN):
The Core Committee of the Parliamentary Committee on Naga Political Issue on Wednesday decided to meet the leaders of NSCN (IM) within this month in an attempt to find a solution to the protracted Naga political issue.

Member Secretary of Parliamentary Committee on Naga Political Issue and Minister Neiba Kronu told journalists that the decision was taken at the Cabinet and core committee meeting held at State Banquet Hall, Chief Minister’s Residential Complex in Kohima.

Without providing a specific date, Kronu said that the state leaders would be meeting with the NSCN (IM) leadership before May 31.

This may be followed by a meeting with the Working Committee, Naga National Political ‘Groups (WC-NNPG) if necessary. Later on, state leaders might go to Delhi and meet with the Union Home Minister,’ he added.

The government of India “happens to understand our (Naga political) issue and then we understand their (Centre) difficulties also”, he said, adding that after having a “threadbare discussion” on the Naga political issue, both the parties are “coming closer and closer”.

“If we can understand each other better, then we are becoming closer and for any problem, there is a solution. So this time, we happen to understand each other’s problems and let us hope for the best,” he continued.

In regard to United Democratic Alliance Co-chairman Kuzholuzo Nienu’s statement the government of India is ready to recognise the Naga flag to be used at cultural programmes and incorporate Yehzabo in the Indian Constitution, Kronu refused to give any comment but informed that the core committee did discuss it in the meeting.

He further informed that both the members of parliament (Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha) from the state also attended the Wednesday’s meeting.

Speaking on the outcome of the Cabinet meeting, the minister for Planning and Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs informed that it had decided to upgrade the Changpang Police outpost to a full-fledged police station.

On this, the advisor for New and Renewable Energy, IT&C, Science and Technology, Mmhonlumo Kikon, had taken to Twitter to thank the chief minister and deputy chief minister of the state for the historic decision. “It is in fulfilment of my Constituency’s long-felt demand,” he wrote.
