Gorkha community in Kohima observes martyrs day
Col. Sati along with Gorkha leaders of Kohima lighting the ceremonial lamp on the occasion of Balidan (martyrs’) Diwas in Kohima on Thursday.

Dimapur, Aug. 25 (EMN): Gorkha Public Panchayat, Kohima (GPPK) along with other Gorkha NGOs observed ‘Balidan Diwas’ (Martyrs’ Day) at GPPK hall in Chandmari, Kohima, on Thursday evening.

Gracing the occasion as special guest, the commandant of 1st Assam Rifles, Col. Umesh Chandra Sati, along with Gaon Burah Kamal Bahadur Chettri, GPPK president Santu Thapa and advisors led in lighting of lamps and paying rich floral tribute to the gallant heroes – Major Durga Malla and Captain Neikezakuo at their portrait.

Addressing the gathering, Col. Sati urged all not to forget the sacrifices made by the gallant heroes and also to be inspired by them in any circumstances.

Significance of the day was shared by the president of Gorkha Sahitya Kala Sanstha, Chandra Kumar Lama.

An update from GPPK informed that other members of the community within and outside the state joined the programme virtually through Google connect.

GPPK secretary, Jibon Pradhan, chaired the programme, while songs were presented by Vivela Club, Esha Khati and Binod Mothey.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by a member of Gorkha Biswakarma Pariwarik Welfare Society, Ratan Lohar.
