Nagaland legislator Dr. Imtiwapang Aier no more

Mokokchung, Jan. 7 (EMN): Dr. Imtiwapang Aier, former speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly and MLA from 23 Impur Assembly Constituency, breathed his last in Dimapur on Saturday morning after a brief illness.
He was 49 and is survived by his wife, four daughters and a son.
The mortal remains of late Dr. Aier were expected to reach Kohima on Saturday evening after a programme at his brother’s residence in Dimapur.
A state funeral service will then be held at The Heritage, Kohima at 1:00 pm on Sunday (Jan. 8) before his body is taken to his native village Sungratsu in Mokokchung district for the final rites on Monday (Jan. 9).
Dr. Aier has a PhD in Geology and left a career in academics to join politics. He contested in the 2013 state general election from Congress ticket and served as Parliamentary Secretary for Geology and Mining and was also the speaker of the 12th Nagaland Legislative Assembly when TR Zeliang was the chief minister.
He contested again in the state general election 2018 from the same constituency and was re-elected as an MLA till his demise.
Born on Jan. 22, 1972, Dr. Aier was the son of Sashitoba and the eldest among the siblings.
