Nagaland: Eye donation fortnight gets underway in Peren
Dimapur, Aug. 25 (EMN): The National Eye Donation Fortnight celebration in Peren district got underway on August 25 at the District Hospital, Peren. The 37th National Eye Donation Fortnight is being observed from August 25 to September 8 on the theme “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.”
An update from the office of the chief medical officer (CMO) of Peren, the medical superintendent, Dr. K Limatula Ao, delivered the keynote address while Dr. Y Renbothung Lotha, senior medical officer at District Hospital, Peren, exhorted the gathering. They have encouraged the public to come forward for eye donation and raise awareness of the life changing impact of eye donation and the ‘gift of sight,’ stated an update from the CMO’s office.
The resource person and ophthalmologist, Dr. Lydia Ndang, spoke on the eligibility criteria, age, and indication for donor. She also highlighted that only person with corneal blindness are eligible for donor eye. She stressed on the need to retrieve the cornea from the donor within 6 to 8 hours after death.
The programme concluded with signing of pledge card for eye donation.
