Dimapur, Sep. 23 (EMN): Founder of YouthNet, Hekani Jakhalu, stated that election is not a game but a ‘fight for children, fight for development and fight for change’ and maintained that good roads are important not only imperative for farmers but also for ensuring adequate healthcare and promoting tourism.

Jakhalu stated this during the ‘Friendship Day’ programme of six villages comprising Bamunpukhuri 1, Bamunpukhuri 2, Zani, Purana Bazaar B, Doshehe and Darogajan held at Zani village council hall on September 20.

Jakhalu mentioned how leaders from six villages had approached her and highlighted on the pathetic road conditions over the past 25 years and the hardships endured by the commuters including school children. While empathising with the residents, she has consented to do her best to repair and improve the 5-km road stretch, an update from the six villages stated.

On the occasion, Jakhalu expressed happiness at the villagers, who have came together to celebrate friendship day. She narrated how she came back to Nagaland in 2005 after quitting her job at Delhi High Court, where she worked as a lawyer, and started YouthNet in 2006 with a vision to empower the youth.

She mentioned that YouthNet is the top youth organisation not only in Nagaland but in entire Northeast India. She has also launched the Young Leaders Connect now known as NE leaders Connect with prominent figures like Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of Law and Justice, including chief ministers from NE namely Conrad Sangma, Pema Khandu and regional MLAs, who are part of Young Leaders Connect.

She expressed her burning desire for the Nagas and youth to lead Nagaland in the next 10-15 years.

She mentioned that good road is the most important public asset and expressed hope that with better roads, farmers would be able to market their produce to bigger commercial markets. She called upon the villagers to take advantage and work towards boosting the economy once better road arrive.

She reminded not to forget that good roads would pave the way for better healthcare and tourism. She further encouraged the youth and parents to take education seriously to be well equipped in overcoming challenges.
