Nagaland: Dimapur leads in domestic violence cases
Kohima: Dimapur district has topped the list in the most number of reported domestic violence cases in the state from April 1 to December 31, 2022.
Dimapur district reported a total of 19 cases, followed by Phek district with nine cases and Zunheboto district with eight cases.
This was stated in a consolidated report furnished by Sakhi One Stop Centre, Nagaland, in the annual administrative report 2022-2023 of the Department of Social Welfare, government of Nagaland.
It said Wokha district recorded six cases; Mokokchung and Kohima reported three cases each; Peren and Mon two cases each; Tuensang and Longleng one case each; whereas no cases were recorded in Kiphire district during the period.
Dimapur district also recorded 16 cases of absconding or distressed women followed by Kohima with seven cases, Wokha and Peren districts with six cases, while four cases were recorded in Mokokchung, three cases each in Longleng and Kiphire, two cases in Mon and one case each in Phek and Zunheboto districts.
Meanwhile under the missing, kidnapping and runaway cases, Dimapur again recorded the highest number 56 cases, followed by Phek with four cases, Zunheboto with three cases, Tuensang with two cases and a case each in Kiphire and Mon.
Further, a case each was recorded in Kiphire and Wokha districts for cyber crime.
Meanwhile, Tuensang district recorded three rape cases; followed by Phek, Wokha and Zunheboto districts with two cases each; while Dimapur, Kiphire and Longleng recorded a case each.
It went on to state that five cases of sexual offence or harassment were recorded in Tuensang district; two cases in Kiphire, and one each in Dimapur, Mon and Peren.
It also reported two cases for ‘trafficking’ in Mon district.
Under child sexual abuse, Tuensang recorded five cases followed by two cases in Mokokchung and one in Dimapur.
Moreover, three cases of physical assault were recorded from Dimapur; one lost and found case and one physical assault were recorded from Kohima; and one case each of ‘distress’ and ‘physical abuse’ were also reported from Peren district.
As many as 99 cases of “various reports” were recorded from Dimapur district, the highest in the state, while Longleng district recorded the least with five cases in district-wise data.
In case-categorisation, ‘missing, kidnapping, runaway’ recorded the highest with 67 cases followed by ‘domestic violence’ with 54 cases; and ‘Absconding or distressed women’ with 49 cases, among others.
