Dimapur, July 12 (EMN): Joining with the rest of the country, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) held a ‘Maun Satyagraha’ (silent protest) in front of Congress Bhavan in Dimapur on Wednesday.
The silent protest was organised against the disqualification of its party leader and former national president, Rahul Gandhi, from the Parliament and to express solidarity in his fight for truth and justice, an update from NPCC stated.
In a statement, the Congress national general secretary, KC Venugopal, on Friday, said that Rahul Gandhi has been the strongest and most vocal opponent of the Narendra Modi-led BJP government.
He added that the Congress would move the Supreme Court after the Gujarat High Court refused to stay Gandhi’s conviction in a 2019 defamation case over his Modi surname remarks.
He further alleged that the government is finding newer techniques to throttle his voice.
“Undeterred, Gandhi has remained steadfast in his resolve to take on the ruling regime,” Venugopal said adding even outside Parliament, he remains the voice of the people and the leader who people can trust.
“As a result, not just the Congress, but the entire country is agitated at his wrongful and vindictive disqualification,” he claimed.
