DIMAPUR — The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Secretary, urging the state government to address some issues faced by the student community.

In the memorandum, the student body appealed to the state government to fulfil the assurance to set up a Scholarship Nodal Cell, which was notified in 2019 but remains to be implemented even after four years.

“As such, the union reminds the state government to set up proper cell with concerned officers and staff to ensure transparency and proper disbursement of scholarship schemes in the state,” it stated.

Acknowledging the contributions of various coaching institutes to the academic growth in the state, as well as aspirants of competitive exams, technical exams and allied courses, it said such centres are ‘no less than any other educational institutes’, and thus must come under certain educational regulation/authority of the state.

“Therefore, the union proposes to the state government that the establishment of such institute are registered and monitored for safe functioning of these institutes,” it said.

The ANCSU also lauded the state government for providing five buses to Sao Chang College Tuensang, New Model College Mangkolemba, Zunheboto Govt. College, New Model College Wakching and Peren Govt. College. However, it said there is shortage of bus in some government colleges, particularly Dimapur Govt. College, wherein more than 1800 students from Niuland and Chumoukedima districts travel every day to attend their classes.

The college has two buses (32-25 seaters) but one is in “inoperable condition”, it stated, while appealing to the competent authority to provide more buses as per the number of students in the college.

The student body went on to urge the state government to look into the matters without delay, saying that failing to do so “may invite confrontation and retaliation from the student community’.
