Nagaland: AKM warns telecom service providers over poor internet connectivity

Mokokchung, July 7 (EMN): Displeased with the poor internet connectivity in Mokokchung district for years, the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has implored the telecom service providers to improve the service within a week, failing which it said would be forced to initiate its own course of action.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, AKM stated that the hardships faced by the public due to the slow internet has been more pronounced during this pandemic as most work has to be done online. It said that sincere requests to improve the services ‘seem to have fallen on deaf ears.’
AKM also pointed out that at this moment, ‘because of poor internet connectivity, most of the students and teachers conducting online classes are totally frustrated; those wanting to send or receive emails, place online orders, or submit important official documents to the different government or private offices are left in a sticky situation’.
Stating that the AKM has been ‘very patient’ with the telecom providers in the hope that they would understand the plight of the people and improve their services, it said they have been ‘pacifying the general public, in favour of the service providers, that certain technical problems faced by the telecom companies were being sorted out and uninterrupted internet connectivity would be restored’.
The student body however claimed that even after the assurances from the concerned telecom service providers, there was no improvement till date, and wondered whether the assurances were ‘just mere words’ to placate the public. “How long should this quandary continue?” it asked.
“The AKM had raised the issue face-to-face with the executives of the telecom service providers in a very sensible manner. However, it is very unfortunate that reputable telecom companies who are supposed to serve the people with their services are failing in their commitment to provide proper internet connectivity in the society,” read the statement.
“In the face of sheer inaction, even the patience of the AKM can endure only this much and we are losing faith in the assurances of the telecom companies,” it added.
The AKM cautioned the telecom service providers that the patience of the people had reached its zenith and expressed fear that ‘unfortunate incidents’ might happen if things were not rectified at the earliest.
“If any untoward incident should happen due to the inaction of the telecom service providers, the AKM should not be held responsible in any manner,” the AKM warned.
“It would be most prudent for the concerned telecom service providers and also the district administration to take this open press statement as a wakeup call and seriously take some concrete actions so as to ameliorate the unnecessary plight of the people,” it added.
