ANMA Integrated Development Association (AIDA), Don Bosco Centre, and SBI Gram Seva, Dimapur, observed ‘World Radio Day’ with the five adopted villages — Khriezephe, Diezephe, Tsithrongse, Urra and Bade.

“Radio is a powerful medium for celebrating humanity in all its diversity and constitutes a platform for democratic discourse. It has the ability to reach across borders and can become a valuable source of information where reliable news is scarce,” AIDA stated in an update.

Radio Day was proclaimed in 2011 by the member states of UNESCO and adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012 as an International Day, thus February 13 became World Radio Day.

“Though not many people talk about it and less importance is given to the event in the present day, radio plays a unique role in bringing communities together and fosters positive dialogue for change.

“There was time when people listened and it provided diversity of views and voices needed to address the challenges faced by the communities in general,” it stated.

To commemorate the day, AIDA-SBI Gram Seva along with the five adopted villages conducted a folk song competition where Tsithrongse and Bade villages shared the first prize while Khriezephe village and Diezephe villages won the second and third positions, respectively. Dimapur, Feb. 13 (EMN)
