The song reminiscence Christmas in village where Banana stumps placed in the village welcome gate, a big leafy and bushy tree for the Christmas tree and candles in bamboo jars covered with banana shoots was all about Christmas decorations.
With no Santa Claus story or Reindeers or Christmas cakes, Christmas was all about steamed sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves, millet, axone with pork and axone chutney- a sense of complete joy and happiness filled the village during Christmas conveys the song.
The writer and composer Kappo says’ reflecting on how Christmas is celebrated today, the first thing that comes to mind is the thousand rupees worth of expensive crackers on the ground and in the air that kill local chickens with expensive decorations which are yet not enough for the show.
The level of competitions and various kinds of Christmas cakes baked for wealthy people and expensive gifts for loved ones, idols of Santa Claus, Reindeers are an ‘in’ thing with no traditional feelings and traditional food with the festive season turning into rich man’s Christmas, said Kappo.
