Mokokchung, Feb 25 (EMN): In a threadbare disclosure, NPF MLA Dr. Imtiwapang Aier, claimed that corruption has overshadowed the Naga society starting from the grassroots to the highest office despite clamour for unity and urged the Nagas everywhere to bridge the division for all round development.

Speaking on the second day of 70th Asetkong Mungdang general conference as the special guest at Kubolong headquarters in Mokokchung district on February 25, Aier admitted that corruption existed in Nagaland and not a new thing. To substantiate his claim, Dr. Aier has cited instance on the prevailing proxy teaching to denote corruption.

He further opined that the legacy of ‘divide and rule policy’ sown by the Britishers have been thoroughly absorbed in the Naga society, which according to him, is creating ‘clash of interest’ and ‘ism’.

In this connection, he called upon the Naga people not to be overshadowed by clan, range, tribe issues but to bridge the gap between the past and the present. The MLA also urged to carefully analyse how far the clean election campaign has been effective. Aier asserted that the campaign would be efficient if more focus is given onto the grassroots for a solid foundation to bring the overall positive change in the electioneering process.

Aier further advised the delegates not to dwell on past glories but do better than their predecessors so that the next generation would not face a bitter situation because of ‘our self-interest and division among us.’ Besides, he also challenged the house to hammer out all the differences and start afresh to uplift the society.

“This is the right time to correct our mistakes and reshape for the future generation. We have to start taking responsibility by contributing positively and erase negativity,” he urged the house.

Lanulemba, president of Asetkong Students’ Conference, also spoke at the programme. He expressed concern over the overwhelming increase in educated unemployed youth in the society as government jobs have reached saturation point. He appealed to the house to ponder seriously to provide avenues through guidance and monetary assistance as many of those unemployed youth have to return to the land at the end of day to start their business and start-ups project.

He further provoked the house on the importance of mother tongue which has become a threat to extinction among the younger generation and urged to promote mother tongue.

Limawati Longchar, retired director of IPR, was the theme speaker.

Meanwhile, the conference has elected new team of office bearers for the tenure of 2022-2024 with Mangyang Ozukum from Mopungchucket village as president, Supongsashi Longkumer from Longjang village as vice president, Imokokba from Sungratsu village as general secretary, Imnasashi from Longpa village as assistant general secretary, Takoyanger from Chami village as finance secretary, and  Kilangwapang from Kobulong village as treasurer.
