A century ago, Nagas were living in thick forests of North East India worshiping big-big stones and trees in the dark jungles. However, during the last part of 19th century, God chose the Naga people to be His own people through American Missionaries spreading the Gospel of Good News and they became faithful Christians.
Eventually, lives of the Nagas developed in all spheres and political consciousness grew too. Nationalism began to dwell in the hearts of the educated Nagas due to discrimination of Hindu people. They used to call the Naga students – “Hey! jungleli manu,Kuda kha manu” ( Jungle people, dog eaters) besides that, Nagas were not even allowed to come to the court yard of Hindu homes. At present they call us chinky. As such, all the Naga govt. employees were nationalist in 1920s.In 1948 March at Ukhrul Town (M.B.C. Golden Jubilee) all the Naga leaders(Naga hill and Manipur) came together and decided to start a ‘non-violent Independent movement’ to establish Naga Christian Independent state, the so called the Sovereignty of Nagalim. Accordingly, the Manipur Nagas initiated by Mao Naga tribe declared that “Mao Sub-division be merged to Assam state. Subsequently, the House Tax of 1948 was deposited to Kohima DC, office. On this ground, three Mao civilian were killed and seven others seriously injured in the firing by Assam Rifles and Manipur Police in August 1948.
Whereas the Nagas of Naga Hill District had pursued seriously to implement 9 points Agreement which was signed between Governor of Assam and Naga people in June 1947. Abruptly, the Assam Rifles and Assam police killed one Angami civilian in Kohima town in broad daylight on 18th Oct. 1952. This made the course of the non-violent movent changed to violent movement in 1953; Naga Underground Army was formed in all Naga inhabited areas and War started between Indian Army and Naga Army in 1953. With the providence of God, the mighty Indian Army forces could not defeat the small Naga Army in 45 years of war. Henceforth, ceasefire Agreement had been made between India Govt. (GOI) and Naga Army (NSCN-IM) in August 1997; and negotiation of Peace Talks started immediately. After 18 yrs, a Peace Accord between GOI and NSCN-IM was signed on 3rd August 2015.
Generally, when any nation demanded independence, usually the slogan goes – America for America, Russia for Russia, Chinese for China, Japanese for Japan, Indian for India and so on, but the Naga slogan is Nagalim for Christ. So the Sovereignty of Nagalim is so named because Christ is Sovereign. Therefore, the highest Politics in the World is Naga Politics.
Since, the Naga people and its lim/land are for Christ, the people of Nagalim should obey the commandment of God and His ordinances. Over and above, they should accordingly follow Christian principles and live to prove ‘Sovereignty of Nagalim’. Therefore, let us follow our President, Isak Chishi Swu, who fears God, whose motto is Pslam 33:12 – Blessed is the Nation whose God is the Lord, the people He had chosen as His own inheritance. This is Sovereignty of Nagalim. Nagas are God’s people, God has open the gate for the Naga Christians to choose Independent State on August 3, 2015. Now, this is the time to praise God, our Lord who has done a great job for us.
In the meantime, let us repent to God sincerely for our sins, mistakes, hatred, jealousy and lies. Let us forgive one another and forget ones misconducts. Let us pray to God and submit ourselves to Him so that true love and perfect peace will be bestowed in our life and Nagalim,
