Naga political issue: Core committee members’ meeting with Amit Shah postponed

A meeting scheduled on Friday between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and a delegation from Nagaland led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, to discuss the Naga peace process, has been postponed to next week, said sources.

Rio along with Deputy CM Y Patton and other members of the Core Committee on Naga Political Issue are currently in New Delhi to meet Shah and other central leaders to give a “final push” for solution to the protracted Naga issue.

The delegation reached the national capital on Wednesday before meeting with the Indian government’s interlocutor AK Mishra on the following day.

In an update, the chief minister informed that he along with minister Neiba Kronu had called on Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs and Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep S Puri, on Friday and had a “very positive discussion on resuming petroleum E&P (exploration and production) activities in Nagaland and other developmental issues”. He added that they met with Ashwini Vaishnaw, minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology, on the same day, while thanking him for his continued support to Nagaland towards providing better connectivity.

In another update on Thursday, Rio informed that he along with ministers Neiba Kronu and S Pangnyu Phom had “a fruitful and positive meeting” with Minister for Culture, Tourism and DoNER, G Kishan Reddy on  the developmental needs of Nagaland.

State’s Health minister Pangnyu Phom also informed in an update that he had called on Union Minister Mansukh L Mandaviya on Friday and apprised him of the CMHIS (Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme) and sought a dedicated technical team from National Health Authority for seamless roll out of the scheme.

On Thursday, he chaired a meeting with the team from World Bank Group led by Trina S Haque, Practice Manager, South Asia, Health, Nutrition & Population Global Practice at UN Office, Delhi. He expressed gratitude to the World Bank for its support to Nagaland in the health sector. He further requested the extension of ongoing projects under the World Bank for another six months and funding of the Nagaland Health Systems Strengthening Project for enhancing health infrastructure and health system delivery.
