Naga mothers support NSCN (IM)-WC NNPG’s declaration; requests Khango-led NSCN (K) leaders to reconcile
The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) has conveyed its support to the recent joint declaration of the NSCN (IM) and Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (WC-NNPG) to work together for the resolution of the protracted Naga political issue.
In a press statement, the NMA expressed hope that the move “will build better understanding amongst our own and take the Naga peace process to an honourable solution respecting Naga rights and history”.
“We appreciate the efforts of the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) and the peace initiatives taking place,” read the statement.
The NSCN (IM) and WC-NNPG, had last week, declared their “unconditional commitment to collaborate on the basis of our respective agreements, with immediate effect, for the resolution of the Naga historical and political rights with the Government of India”. It came four months after the two groups signed a “Joint Accordant” to work together and a subsequent meeting in October.
The Naga Mothers’ Association also requested the leaders of Khango-Isak led NSCN (K) to bury their differences and work together for the good of the Nagas.
“This is a crucial time for Nagas and as mothers who have reached out for peace with these top leaders, both in the jungles of Myanmar, including at Taga CHQ and welcomed their peace overtures at Yangkhao village. We urge our brothers of the group, to rise above personal differences and reconcile with each other at the earliest. Peace and forgiveness is needed most at this moment in our history,” it said.
A crack appeared in the NSCN/GPRN (K) recently following a discord between two parties of the same faction, one led by President Khango Konyak and the other by Ato Kilonser (Col. Retd) Isak Sumi, over an internal matter.
