Naga Mothers’ Association urges Nagaland government to fulfill NIDA’s demand
Dimapur, April 20 (EMN): The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) has conveyed its solidarity with the Nagaland In-Service Doctors’ Association (NIDA) on the demand to increase the superannuation age of medical doctors in the state.
In a representation to the chief minister, the NMA has urged the government of Nagaland to resolve the ongoing crisis at the earliest by accepting the “genuine” demand of NIDA and ensure immediate resumption of normalcy in healthcare services in public interest.
It stated that it had been demanding better healthcare for decades, having witnessed acute shortage of specialist doctors, general practitioners, nurses, lab technicians, medical equipment, and medicines in many CHCs, PHCs, and district hospitals.
Maintaining that the state is in dire need of good medical colleges, nursing institutes and better health facilities, especially in rural areas, it thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for increasing the superannuation age of doctors across the country.
It said the state government must create and immediately advertise post of all categories of healthcare professionals — doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and lab technicians — to ensure balanced healthcare and citizens’ right to good healthcare.
The NMA stated that the two medical colleges in the state should be made operational at the earliest so that students can study in the institutions. It also said that the State Health Society must be made functional as it is an important body for people’s voice to be heard within the government structure.
The association went on to urge doctors in government hospitals to sincerely provide their services and maintain moral ethics towards public health. “Accountability must be strictly maintained so that we can proudly claim the best health services for all areas in the state,” it added.
