DIMAPUR— The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) has sought immediate intervention from the National Commission for Women (NCW) into the violent crimes against women in the ongoing “ethnic cleansing war” in Manipur.

The association in a representation to the chairperson NCW said it is aggrieved at the violence perpetrated against women since May 3, 2023, which continues unabated.

The representation pointed out to two latest cases of violence against women including the abduction and brutal murder of M Lucy of Narum village from the Maring tribe, who was murdered at Sawombung on July 15 by “armed people of the Meitei community” and the May 4 incident where two young women of the Kuki Zo community of B Phainom village, Kangkokpi district, were paraded naked, groped and raped by armed “young Meiteis.”

“The horrifying violence and trauma of the victims in the video which has gone viral, is a shame to humanity and all of us in this region.

“The Naga Mothers’ Association demands an immediate inquiry be set up by the National Commission for Women into these two incidents and countless others, which have made women and young girls the target of this war, mercilessly being raped, killed and forced to bear untold violence in Manipur,” NMA stated.

“We can only think and talk of peace when punitive action is served and victims and their families see justice,” it added.
