DIMAPUR — Three persons namely Rakesh and Anisha from Nepal and Kevilebo Zhotso from Nagaland would undertake a cycling tour from Manali in Himachal Pradesh to the highest plateau of India, Ladakh.
An update from Nagaland Cycling Association (NCA) stated that Kevilebo Zhotso hails from Jakhama village and has been into professional cycling for over 12 years. He has participated in a few races, which cover over a 1000 km stretch. He is also a pioneer in Nagaland Cycling Association, promoting the sport in the state.
It stated that the expedition code-named “Ladakh Expedition” is expected to start on August 9 from Manali to Ladakh and back to Manali covering over 1800 km over a period of 25 days reaching an altitude of over 5600 m above sea level.
Why the Ride?
It mentioned that over the last few years, there has been substantial growth in the MTB cycling community in the country but the opportunity to make a career out of cycling was very less. It added that cyclists are very passionate about it from a sports point of view, but not everyone could win races. It, therefore, stated that the cycling community needs to help those cyclists make a career out of their passion. The aim was to promote cycling tours and also promote MTB biking races.
It further stated that Kevilebo had coached the Nagaland cycling team in the last concluded 2022 North East Olympics held in Shillong.
The Nagaland Cycling Association and the Nagaland Mountain Biking communities have conveyed their best wishes to Kevilebo Zhotso and his team.
