[dropcap]M[/dropcap]AKING his mark in the world of fashion, Vilhousa Movi, who started pursuing his interest for designing as a small village boy, emerged winner of the Northeast Outfit and Voice Fusion, 2014 in the Designer Category. The grand finale was held at Shillong on June 5, also commemorating world environment day. The only Naga to make it to the final round, Vilhousa Movi, along with a few other Naga designers had represented the state. As the winner, he is entitled to a promotional tour to London and a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh (which he is yet to receive). He is also assured of a movie project.
Vilhousa Movi is from Zhavame village under Phek district, who did his schooling from Sacred Heart School Chizami and spent most of his teenage life in the village. The designer recalled been drawn to any kind of handiwork since he was in class 3 and has had orders pouring in even before he started pursuing designing seriously. As a Fashion Designing Graduate, Vilhousa Movi was also adjudged the winner of “Best Creativity” at the Graduation Show at Government Polytechnic Kohima.
In the recent past, his designs have been showcased in events like Mr. North East, 2012, Miss Teen Nagaland, and NIAPA Designers’ Award, apart from the recent show at Shillong. Some of the models who sported his designs also include Kenei Rhakho, Keneisenuo, Dovine, Vetolü Dawhuo, Esther Natso, and Rupfukhoyi Rhakho to name a few. Accomplished designers like Rosou Rhi and Modovina Mocha, are of great inspiration to him, the designer added, while extending his gratitude to friends, well wishers and sponsors who showed him immense support in the recently concluded show.
Vilhousa Movi designs mostly ethnic wears and is particularly drawn to colours like white and black, while explaining that these colours go with anything.
Mention may be made here that the North East India, Ethnic Outfit and Voice Fusion, is a dual event project promoted by Better Life Foundation (BLF), non- profit organization based in Nagaland in collaboration with Worldview Impact Foundation, London.
