Myanmar medical team rives Imphal for three months training

[dropcap]A[/dropcap]n eight-member Myanmar medical delegation was accorded warm welcome during a reception function at Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI) in imphal on Tuesday.
The Myanmar delegation which comprises two surgeons- Dr Nanda Lar and Dr Zaw Min Htet and six senior nurses Daw Yin Yin Mya, Daw Zar Wah Wah Tun, Daw Thae Mon Aye, Daw Kay Khaing Myint, Daw Ei Kay Khaing, Daw Thae Su Moe, all from the General Hospital of Monywa in Myanmar’s Saigang division were here to undergo three months training on Key hole surgery, Operation Theatre technology and Critical Care at SHRI in collaboration with Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India (AMASI).
SHRI’s Chairman cum Managing Director Dr Kh Palin in his key note address said that is hopeful that the initiatives undertaken by Shija, including Shija’s Mission Myanmar, will help in enhancing the relationship between India and Myanmar after successful holding of three consecutive mission Myanmar trip by his hospital teams in May and December 2013 and March 2014. The development of India is depending on the development of Myanmar, Dr palin observed.Stating that Shija is one of the leading centres in eastern India for key hole surgery, he lauded the efforts to launch Imphal to Mandalay(Myanmar) bus service and urged the authority to initiate VISA on arrival for Myanmar nationals at Manipur by land route.
Attending the reception cum welcome function as chief guest, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh said Manipur and neighbouring country Myanmar particular Mandalay and Saigang region are closer day by day for a better understanding.
Comparing the difference in the time taken and convenience in travel between Myanmar and Manipur as against that of Kolkatta or other metros in India, Ibobi said,“We have a good beginning to make a better understanding and good gesture between the two regions.”
Myanmar needs lot to be taken up in the field of medicine. Manipur have to do a lot in the health sector despite having two states run medical colleges. The present government is giving more priority to the Health, Education and IT sectors. State Technology Park of India (STPI) will be inaugurated very soon, he informed the gathering.
Welcoming the Myanmar delegation, he also opined that Manipur will be an important place for the South Asian Counties when India’s Look East Policy comes into place.
President of the AMASI (East Zone) and SHRI’s director Dr Jugindro said the three months long training programme will be held under the sponsorship of Shija ‘free of cost’ while AMASI will be providing scholarship to the trainees. The training was formally started from July 23 last.Team leader of the Myanmar medical delegation Dr Nandalal opined they are very proud to be here to undergo training under the experts hands of Shija hospitals in various fields including the Minimal Surgery (key hole surgery).
