DIMAPUR — The anti-sexual harassment cell of Mount Tiyi College (MTC), Wokha, organised an awareness workshop on ‘Gender parity and sensitivity in educational institution’ at the college’s conference hall on September 18.

According to an update, the workshop was a collaborative effort with IQAC, MTC, Sakhi-One Stop Centre, Wokha and District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Wokha.

Dr. Renabeni T Murry, spl. financial literacy, DHEW, spoke on gender parity and sensitivity in educational institution; Thungbeni Kikon, case worker, Sakhi-One Stop Centre, spoke on the legal aspects and consultations in case of sexual harassments in workplace and Dr. Thungdeno Murry, medical officer, PHC Chukitong, spoke on mental health hygiene and anaemia.

Earlier, delivering the welcome address, MTC principal Dr. Bweyhunle Khing, appreciated the conduct of such an awareness workshop, which is “not only educative but a harbinger of peaceful coexistence.”

In her keynote address, Dr. W Meribeni Patton, convenor of the anti-sexual harassment cell and the chairperson for the workshop, highlighted the need to address gender parity.

She said that gender parity is a human fight and not a female fight alone. She also emphasised the necessity to include both male and female students in the awareness workshop as Mount Tiyi College is a co-educational institution.

Mhono Odyuo, IQAC member, gave the concluding remarks.

On the occasion, women’s forum, a branch for the anti-sexual harassment cell, was also set up “with an aim to provide caregivers and a safe environment for every individual,” it stated.
