Imphal, July 23 (EMN): The alleged rumour of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President TN Haokip joining the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following the appearance his photograph in a BJP billboard or hoarding which went viral in the social media has been rejected by sitting congress MLA Haokip on Sunday.
Addressing a hurriedly called press conference here this afternoon, MPCC President Haokip accompanied by Congress legislators N Loken,Kh Joykisan,Th Lokeshwor,Alfred, said this look as an act of larger conspiracy as it not only targets me but the Congress party.
“I will remain in the Congress party in my political career. I’ve my personal integrity,” said the sitting Congress MLA from Saikot assembly constituency in Churachandpur district.
Haokip also a former assembly speaker added that he is compelled to go to court as well as cyber crime authority for necessary steps as the matter was circulated in the social media. The party will also take up further course of action, he added.
Informing that Congress party is very much alive, he said, “the ruling government is like just 3 month old baby, so we don’t want to criticise.”
It may be noted that Congress party which won 28 seats out of 60 in the recent elections, is currently having 20 MLAs after eight of them joined the ruling BJP. Congress MLAs N Loken,Kh Joykisan,Th Lokeshwor, Alfred also took part in the day’s press conference.
MPCC President’s reaction came after his photograph on a BJP billboards or hoarding which were erected in the road median of Imphal town in connection with the daylong BJP state executive meeting on Sunday, went viral in social media also on Sunday.
Later the said billboard or hoarding having Haokip’s photograph has been replaced prior to the day’s press conference at Congress Bhavan in Imphal.
Though one Imphal based agency-Sharma Enterprises which was engaged for printing and erection of the billboards clarified for the mistakes, the General Secretary (Admn) K Saratkumar Singh of BJP Manipur Pradesh cancelled their contract with the party.
“For reasons of false printing and erection of hoarding your contract with the BJP Manipur Pradesh stands cancelled,” said Saratkumar in a letter to the agency. “Any resultant consequences regarding the matter shall be solely borne by your firm and the BJP Manipur Pradesh will not be responsible for it.”
