Earlier, declaring the sports-week open, Khekavi Yeptho, pastor of Sumi Baptist Church, Kohima, referred  to 1 Corinthian 9:24 from the Bible and said that despite many runners in a race, few or only one gets a prize as in every game and sport as there are rules to follow.

He, therefore, emphasised on the guidelines and rules for playing in order to achieve the prize, keeping in mind the necessity to be disciplined as sportspersons.

“Discipline is the essential foundation for any sport. A person who is not disciplined cannot be a good sportsperson,” Yeptho said.

The pastor also stressed on the importance of team work to be a successful player and being part of a good team. According to him, winning or losing doesn’t matter, saying that as long as one could play well, he or she is a “good player”.

On Tuesday, volleyball, javelin throw, discus throw, shot put as well as bamboo climbing will be held at IG Stadium.

Naga style wrestling, table tennis and badminton will be conducted at State Indoor Stadium on Wednesday.

Swedezhono Tsükrü, principal of Mount Olive College, informed that they recently held a health awareness programme in collaboration with Nagaland State Aids Control Society.
